If you’re a visitor to the island of Saint Lucia for Carnival, then you must know about Dennery Segment, the infectious beats resonating from Saint Lucia, taking the world by storm.

Emerging from Dennery, Saint Lucia in the 2010s, Dennery Segment is a fast-paced, provocative genre blending elements of Soca, Dancehall, and Zouk, this high-energy sound has become a signature of Saint Lucian music, dominating Carnival and party scenes worldwide.

The genre was initially called Lucian Kuduro. The name Dennery Segment emerged after fete goes kept using the term to request the music from DJ’s during events, as many of the producers and artists at that time were from the village of Dennery.

Dennery Segment is often characterized by bold, highly expressive lyrics typically delivered in Saint Lucian Creole, adding to its intense, rebellious, and carefree characteristic.

Much like Dancehall, Dennery Segment producers create riddims (instrumental tracks) that multiple artists use to craft their own unique songs, leading to a dynamic, ever-evolving sound. Several regional Soca artists have collaborated with Saint Lucian producers to produce songs on Dennery Segment Riddims
