The Carnival Planning and Management Committee has launched an updated Calendar of events for Saint Lucia Carnival 2023. The jam-packed calendar offers something for everyone with the much-awaited return of events like J’Ouvert, Inter-Commercial House Calypso, Junior Carnival and community carnivals. The updated calendar also includes several new parties and boatrides, and the schedule for calypso tent for the season running from July 1st to July 19th.
Speaking at the unveiling, Chairperson of the Carnival Planning and Management Committee, Ms. Tamara Gibson, noted that the CPMC executed a scaled-down version of Carnival during 2022 with budget and time considerations resulting in the exclusion of key events.
“We’re pleased to announce the return of highly sought-after national events like Inter-Commercial Calypso, Schools Calypso, Junior Carnival, and J’ouvert.” Miss Gibson indicated that the return of these events demonstrates that Saint Lucia Carnival caters to all different age groups, and ensures the development of the craft by engaging our youth.
The CPMC also noted their excitement over the return of Community Carnivals. The Communities of Gros Islet, Roseau, Canaries, Dennery, Soufriere, Anse La Raye, and Babboneau, will each host Carnival. “The Communities have already begun planning for their individual Pageants and parades, and we’re proud of the increased effort being put in place to ensure that they provide, safe, affordable, and high-quality experiences for you. Some of the communities have held band launches and we’ve also seen significant improvements in the level of craft and creativity being put into the development of the costumes. We encourage all St. Lucians to go out and enjoy your carnivals. Get involved and be a part of it because Carnival belongs to all of us.” Said, Ms. Gibson.
