Due to the impending passage of Tropical Storm Brett, the Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC) has announced the postponement of the Semi-Final round of the Groovy and Power Soca Monarch competition, initially scheduled for this Friday, June 23, at the National Cultural Centre Grounds.
In consultation with the Saint Lucia Meteorological Department and other key stakeholders, the CPMC has decided that the decision to postpone the event is in the best interest of participants and patrons of the show.
Chairperson of the CPMC, Ms. Tamara Gibson said “One of our key areas of focus for Saint Lucia Carnival, is safety. In cases of natural disasters, we depend on the experts to guide us, and based on the recommendations received, we believe it is in the best interest of public safety for us to postpone. We will keep working with the Met office to determine when it will be safe to proceed with the competition. In the interim, we encourage all of Saint Lucia to heed the warnings coming from the Meteorological office and agencies like NEMO to keep yourself and your family safe.”
A new date for the semi-final round of the Groovy and Power Soca Monarch will be announced at a later date.
Calypso Semi-Finals will continue as planned from 4 pm on Sunday, June 25th, at the National Cultural Centre. Tickets for the shows can be purchased from The Cell and Steve’s Barbershop.
